The Importance Of Meeting New People

Finding Friends and Happiness After a Brain Aneurysm

I think one of the hardest things about coming home after a brain aneurysm is feeling like you're completely alone. I didn't know anyone else who had gone through something similar, and I didn't know how to find them. My friends had walked away and I was very depressed.

It was a really tough time. Thankfully, somehow, I found a meetup app that had many types of groups.  The different groups were put together by people that wanted to meet and socialize with new people that enjoyed the same things.  It helped me connect with people I had never met.  I didn't have to explain to them what I went through.  They would never know that I was a different person than I was before the trauma.  Joining that first group was scary, but it was also the start of a very fun new life.

Here's my story.

I went through a burst brain aneurysm in March of 2018. It was a total shock - I had no symptoms and no family history of the condition that I knew of at that time. After my ruptured aneurysm was repaired, I spent weeks in the hospital recovering. When I was finally discharged, I felt lost. I didn't know anyone else who had been through what I had just been through, and I felt like I couldn't relate to anyone anymore.

Several months after I got home from the hospital, I came across an app called Meetup on my phone. There were tons of different groups listed, but one in particular caught my eye: "Drinking With Stangers." Just seeing that there were people out there to meet and party with made me feel a little better.

I found, over the next several months, that others would rather talk than listen.  Having difficulty speaking wasn't an issue in bars.  I was hopeful.  I really wanted to have a "new life."   But actually joining the group was another story altogether.

I remember being so nervous when I was supposed to show up to my first meetup.  I was so scared I didn't go.  All I could imagine was walking into a crowded bar, trying to find people I had never met before and being totally judged.

Looking back, that shouldn't have been a concern.  Of course I was immediately kicked out of the group.  I was so mad at myself.  I forced myself to send a message telling the group organizer, Robert, I was sorry and practically begging to be able to join the next event.

I was terrified but forced myself to go.  It was at a huge bar, called Jimbos, so I assumed it would be busy.  The first band I had seen when Linda had dragged me out months ago was playing at the bar.  I had gotten to know the drummer the month before so felt I wouldn't be totally alone.  I showed up and the entire place was empty except for around ten people in the group.

It was kind of quiet.  I felt so uncomfortable and shy but I forced myself to walk over and introduce myself. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, but I still felt like an outsider. Thankfully, though, I decided to give it another shot the next month. And then the next week after that. Slowly but surely, I started to feel like part of the group.

This past year has been filled with highs and lows, but thanks to the friends I've made through this meetup group, it's also been one of the happiest years of my life. I've had so much fun meeting new people, having a blast and enjoying life.

If you're looking for emotional healing after a brain aneurysm, don't be afraid to reach out and connect with others who enjoy doing things that you enjoy.  Trust me - it's worth it.

Joining a meetup group for people that really want to enjoy life and meet new people was one of the best decisions I ever made. It gave me friends who got to know the "new me."  They didn't even realize my life was new and I didn't have to explain myself.  They helped me find happiness again.

Social Groups

Music, Drinks & Socializing-This was a lot of fun.  There's nothing quite like spending an evening at a bar, listening to good music with friends. That's why I'm part of a social group that loves to do just that. We always have a great time when we get together, relax, and enjoy the music. We've formed strong bonds with each other, and it's always enjoyable to catch up over a few drinks and some tunes. If you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere where you can listen to some good music and socialize with friends, then a group like this is definitely for you.

Travel

If you love to travel but hate the thought of going solo, there's no need to worry. There are plenty of great groups on meetup that can help you find companions for your next trip. Whether you're looking for someone to share expenses with or just want some company on the road, you're sure to find a group that's a perfect fit. And best of all, traveling with others can help you relax and enjoy your trip even more. So don't let the fear of traveling alone hold you back - check out some of the great travel groups on meetup today.

Walking Groups

There are great groups on meetup with people who like to walk and hike. You can relax and enjoy the scenery while getting some exercise. Walking is a great way to reduce stress and relax. It is also a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Hiking is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise. It is also a great way to see some beautiful scenery. There are many different groups on meetup, so you can find one that fits your interests and schedule. Walking and hiking are great ways to relax, get some exercise, and meet new people.

Restaurants

Meeting new people can be tough, especially if you're shy or new to a city. But there's no need to worry - there are plenty of great meetup groups out there that can help you make friends and expand your social circle. One of my favorite meetups is a group that gets together for dinner once a week. It's a great way to relax and enjoy a meal with new friends. And since everyone loves food, it's an easy icebreaker and conversation starter. If you're looking for a fun and relaxed way to meet new people, I highly recommend checking out some of the great food-related meetup groups in your area!

Thank You Robert and Melissa ❤️

When it comes to finding entertainment, there are plenty of options out there. There are all sorts of groups to join, whether you're looking for something active or something more low-key. If you're the type of person who likes to be on the go, there are plenty of groups that offer activities like hiking, biking, and even kayaking.

And if you're looking for something a little more relaxed, there are groups that offer things like movie nights and potlucks. There really is something for everyone. So if you're ever feeling bored, don't worry. There's sure to be a group out there that can provide the entertainment you're looking for.

It can be difficult to find people with similar interests, especially if you live in a small town or rural area. However, there are many ways to connect with like-minded individuals, even if there are not many groups in your area.

One option is to start your own group. This can be a great way to meet new people and share your interests. It can be as simple as putting together a few friends
